You've just taken over the last hot dog diner after the apocalypse. Here's what official sources establish about your first sessions — no guesswork, and we're upfront about what only playing will teach you.
The essentials: orders arrive with deadlines and expire if you're slow; there is an in-game currency called Franks, and tips that bandits can steal before they leave the diner; there are three upgrade tracks (Cooking Equipment, Your Diner, Your Handy Weapon); and the game's first milestone is surviving your first week. A free demo exists if you want to try before buying.
Before you buy Official
Doomsday Diner is a single-player, Windows-only game that launched on Steam on July 23, 2026 at $9.99 (US price). Check the system requirements first — the minimum spec is modest, but the developer's recommended GPU is surprisingly high. If you're unsure, Space Rock Games hosts a free Windows demo on itch.io; the demo page explains what to expect from it.
Your three jobs Official
The store listing is structured around three systems, and the game's own tagline is "Chaos! Cooking! Combat!". In practice that means:
- Cooking. Hot dogs and coffee, with controls the store listing calls physics-based. Orders expire, and food has real failure states — Steam's achievement data names burnt, raw, and "Jawbreaker" dogs. Details in the cooking guide.
- Combat. Bandits raid the diner to steal your earnings, including tips. You have a weapon with its own upgrade track. Details in the combat guide.
- Cleaning. Tables need wiping, and combat leaves bodies that need clearing. Details in the cleaning guide.
Money: Franks and tips Official platform data
The currency is called Franks — the achievement "Weinermeister" is earned by spending 1,000 of them, and the official Steam screenshots show where they go: an upgrade shop with purchases priced in Franks (below). Tips also exist, and bandits can steal them: "Not So Fast" is awarded for killing a bandit who has stolen tips before they leave the diner. How tips are earned and how they relate to Franks is not officially documented. Needs release-build verification
Early milestones from achievement data Official platform data
Steam's global achievement stats (retrieved 2026-07-26) name the game's own early milestones. The percentages are a dated snapshot of how many achievement-tracked players had each one — not difficulty ratings:
- "Ding" — Deliver 10 Orders sat at roughly 82% global unlock, the highest rate on the list at retrieval time.
- "Mise en place" — Deliver 3 Orders in 30 seconds (~56%): the game defines an explicit speed benchmark.
- "New Owner" — Survive your First Week (~32%): time runs at least in weeks, and surviving the first one is a named milestone.
- "NEXT!" — Change the music on the Jukebox: yes, there is a jukebox.
Unlock percentages change constantly; treat these as a dated snapshot, not fixed difficulty ratings. The full list is on the achievements page.
What this guide won't tell you (yet) Needs release-build verification
No official source publishes the controls, the recipe list, upgrade prices, or a day-by-day walkthrough — so we don't either. This page is a source-safe orientation, not a playtested walkthrough; we haven't documented first-hand play, and we won't imply otherwise. As release-build verification lands, the system guides get deeper, and the updates page tracks what changed.
