Cooking
Everything verified about the kitchen: deadlines, failure states, sauces, and the caffeinated menu.
Read: Cooking →Doomsday Diner is a physics-driven simulation of running the last hot dog diner after the apocalypse. Its whole rhythm comes from three jobs competing for your attention: cooking orders before they expire, fighting off bandits who come for your earnings, and cleaning up what both of those leave behind.
The short version: take orders → cook and serve under time pressure → defend the till when bandits arrive → clear tables and bodies → upgrade the diner → survive the week. The developer's own summary is three words: "Chaos! Cooking! Combat!"
The menu centres on hot dogs and coffee. Orders arrive with deadlines, and the store page is blunt about the stakes: cook the "weird and wacky hotdogs of the apocalypse" before orders expire. The controls are physics-based — that's the store listing's word, and official sources don't detail how food handling plays out beyond it, so neither do we.
Steam's achievement data adds texture the store page doesn't: hot dogs can come out burnt, raw, or as something the game calls a Jawbreaker; there are sauced dogs, and a caffeinated wing of the menu that includes coffee, Dogstew, and Caffeinated Dogs. The cooking guide collects everything verified so far.
Bandits raid the diner to steal your earnings — achievement wording confirms they can make off with tips. You carry a weapon, it has its own upgrade track, and the official copy stresses the multitasking problem: fight if you must, but don't forget what's on the stove. Achievement names confirm specifics like reflecting a bandit's bullet and a lethal Hot Sauce upgrade. See the combat guide.
The store listing gives cleaning equal billing with the other systems: keep the diner spotless, clearing tables — and the bodies that combat leaves behind. How much cleanliness feeds back into business is one of the open questions we haven't verified yet; the cleaning guide is explicit about that line.
Officially there are three upgrade categories: Cooking Equipment, Your Diner, and Your Handy Weapon. Steam's achievement data separately names an in-game currency, Franks ("Weinermeister" is earned by spending 1,000 of them). Whether Franks are what pays for those tracks, and what individual upgrades cost or do, is not published anywhere official, so we don't say — that data arrives only after release-build verification. Needs release-build verification
Time is structured at least in weeks: the achievement "New Owner" is earned by surviving your first week.
No official source currently documents the full recipe list, order variety, bandit types, upgrade contents, controls, or whether there is a story ending. Rather than pad this page with guesses, we track those gaps on the updates page and fill them as evidence lands.
